Multan Sultans have finally registered their first victory of the PSL 2025 season, overpowering Lahore Qalandars by 33 runs in a high-scoring clash at the Multan Cricket Stadium. On a sweltering evening, Yasir Khan lit up the arena with a scintillating 87 off just 44 balls, helping his side post a commanding total of 228 for 5 — the highest score recorded in Multan during PSL history.
Yasir, alongside skipper Mohammad Rizwan, got Multan off to a flying start, punishing Shaheen Afridi and then dismantling Zaman Khan and Haris Rauf with a flurry of boundaries. The duo raced to 79 in the powerplay, laying the foundation for a dominant innings. After Rizwan’s dismissal to Asif Afridi, Yasir continued his onslaught, bringing up his fifty with a six and maintaining the aggressive tempo.
Iftikhar Ahmed provided the perfect finish, smashing an unbeaten 40 off just 18 deliveries. His late blitz, including a 14-run final over off Shaheen, ensured the Sultans posted a daunting 228. Qalandars’ bowling trio of Shaheen, Haris, and Zaman combined for a costly 119 runs in just eight overs.
Chasing 229, Lahore needed a flying start, and Fakhar Zaman initially delivered, blasting 32 off 14 balls before holing out off Ubaid Shah’s bowling. Despite an enterprising partnership between Abdullah Shafique and Daryl Mitchell, Lahore struggled to keep pace with the required rate.
Multan’s bowlers kept the pressure on, with Ubaid Shah claiming three crucial wickets, including the key dismissal of Sam Billings who was threatening to mount a comeback. Sikandar Raza’s late fireworks, including a 27-ball fifty, helped Lahore reduce the margin of defeat but never truly put Multan’s total under threat.
This victory gives Multan Sultans a much-needed morale boost as they look to turn their PSL 2025 campaign around, while Lahore Qalandars are left searching for answers after a faltering chase and underwhelming bowling performance.
