Sourav Ganguly Urges India to Sever Cricketing Ties with Pakistan After Pahalgam Attack

India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral cricket series since 2012-13, and tensions continue to escalate. In the aftermath of the tragic terrorist attacks in Pahalgam that claimed the lives of several innocent tourists, former Indian cricket captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has called for a complete severance of cricketing ties with Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters in Kolkata, Ganguly was firm in his stance: “One hundred per cent, this [cutting cricketing ties] must happen. Strict action is needed. It’s no joke that incidents like these occur every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated.”

Currently, India and Pakistan only face each other in ICC events, avoiding bilateral series due to ongoing political tensions. Their latest encounter took place during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Dubai. The long-standing freeze on bilateral matches dates back over a decade, underscoring the strained relationship between the two cricketing giants.

Looking ahead, the next major event will be the Women’s ODI World Cup, hosted by India later this year. However, in accordance with an agreement between the PCB and the BCCI, any India vs. Pakistan matches will be held at a neutral venue to maintain diplomatic balance.
