Lahore Qalandars pulled off a sensational chase against Multan Sultans, with Sikandar Raza and Daryl Mitchell leading the charge to secure a crucial win and climb to second place on the PSL 2025 points table.
Multan Sultans might have believed their 185-run total was safe on a challenging Lahore surface, but a late-innings collapse with the ball cost them dearly. Raza and Mitchell combined for an explosive 89-run partnership, guiding Qalandars to a dominant victory with an over to spare.
Qalandars Restrict Sultans Early On
After winning the toss and opting to bowl, Lahore Qalandars’ seamers applied early pressure. Mohammad Rizwan and Yasir Khan struggled to find momentum during the powerplay, managing just 39 runs and losing Yasir’s wicket.
Tom Curran was the standout with the ball, using clever variations to trouble the Sultans batters. He dismissed Shai Hope with a sharp delivery that breached the defenses, leaving Multan at a shaky 70 for 3.
Kamran Ghulam’s arrival brought stability and much-needed acceleration. Partnering with Rizwan, the duo kept the scoreboard ticking with regular boundaries. Rizwan anchored the innings with a composed 76 off 48 balls, while Ghulam’s aggressive 52 not out off just 31 deliveries lifted Sultans to a competitive 185. Haris Rauf’s expensive final over, leaking 20 runs, gave Multan a late boost.
Mitchell and Raza Turn the Game for Qalandars
Lahore Qalandars approached the chase with clear aggression. Though Mohammad Naeem departed early, Abdullah Shafique dazzled with his stroke play, including a standout flick for six against Mohammad Hasnain. His fluent 36 laid a strong foundation for the chase.
However, Ubaid Shah turned the game momentarily by dismissing both Shafique and Sam Billings in the 12th over, leaving Qalandars under slight pressure. Yet, any hopes of a Sultans resurgence were dashed by the calm and calculated partnership between Sikandar Raza and Daryl Mitchell.
Raza injected urgency into the innings, which Mitchell quickly matched. The pair hammered eight sixes during their stand, taking 14, 11, and 18 runs off overs 13, 14, and 15 respectively, tilting the match firmly in Lahore’s favor.
Although Mitchell fell for a brilliant 64 off 38 balls, Raza remained unbeaten on 40 from 21 balls, finishing the chase in style with an over to spare.
Sultans’ Struggles Continue
For Multan Sultans, it was a familiar tale of missed opportunities and inconsistency. Their fifth defeat of the season has left them teetering on the brink of elimination, needing to win all of their remaining four games to stay in contention for the playoffs.
Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars’ thrilling chase not only boosted their confidence but also solidified their place among the tournament’s top contenders as PSL 2025 heats up.
