Pakistan women’s cricketer Gull Feroza has firmly stated that her team has no interest in playing matches in India, citing escalating tensions between the two nations after the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently approved a “hybrid model” for tournaments involving India and Pakistan. Under this arrangement, if either nation hosts a major event, matches between the two sides will be played at a neutral venue rather than in the host country. The move came after India declined to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy earlier this year, opting instead to play their fixtures in Dubai.
Pakistan Women’s Cricket Team Unlikely to Travel to India for ODI World Cup 2025
Despite securing qualification for the upcoming Women’s ODI World Cup — scheduled to be hosted by India in September — the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has indicated that their women’s team will not travel to India. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi confirmed that the team would play their World Cup matches at a neutral venue, most likely Dubai or Sri Lanka. The decision comes in the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which has further strained relations between the neighboring countries.
Speaking to Pak Passion, Gull Feroza reinforced the stance, stating,
“We are clear that we are not playing in India. Neither are we interested. We will play in similar Asian conditions, whether it’s Sri Lanka or Dubai. Our staff has prepared tracks accordingly during the qualifiers at home.”
Meanwhile, tensions remain high along the Line of Control, with reports of unprovoked firing adding to the already volatile situation.
BCCI Clarifies Position on India-Pakistan Matches in ICC Events
Following the Pahalgam incident, speculation grew that India and Pakistan might be placed in separate groups for upcoming ICC tournaments. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has dismissed such rumors. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla clarified that no formal request has been made to the ICC to separate the two teams. He emphasized that any action would be taken only after consultation with the Indian government.
The Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 will follow a round-robin format, where each team plays against all others. Hence, the question of group separation does not arise for this tournament.
